Behind-The Scenes
Making Space For Veterans To Thrive
The Workforce Development Program empowers Detroit and Highland Park residents with in-demand green energy skills. Through hands-on training and nationally recognized certifications, participants are prepared for careers that improve both homes and communities.

How It Started
The Story Behind The Movement
This program is near and dear to our hearts. It ties into the roots of We Want Green Too. We started as an organization that primarily focused on the upliftment of veterans through the use of education and training in home energy efficiency/green job skills. Over the years we have sourced different funding sources, developed our own implementation process, and served
several individuals in their pursuit of purpose.
Building Healthier, Safer, Energy-Efficient Homes
Our latest effort was a Workforce Development Cooperative titled “Detroit Energy Efficiency Workforce Training” with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).
We Want Green Too was awarded a short-term grant to enroll 20 individuals in training to be awarded the Building Analyst Technician and Building Analyst Professional Certifications and provide retention and job placement services for the trainees.
The State of Michigan recognizes the need for these professionals and has taken initiative to fill the ever growing gap. This grant is one of those initiatives.
Where We’re At: Training Graduates and Building Momentum
Though information heavy, these accredited classes are doable. We have successfully had 20 individuals enroll and complete the required class for the Building Analyst Technician and Building Analyst Professional Certifications. The Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) and Building Analyst Professional (BA-P) certifications are industry-recognized credentials that help ensure homes are safe, energy-efficient, and healthy to live in. These certifications are offered by the Building Performance Institute (BPI), a leading authority in home performance standards.
We are currently working towards securing additional funding to keep the program going. Our partners are qualified and dedicated to uplifting the community and providing the necessary tools for us to uplift ourselves.
Join the Movement: Help Us Strengthen Our Communities
These certifications are important because they ensure that the people working on your home have the knowledge and skills to do it right. They also support broader goals like reducing energy waste, lowering utility costs for families, and improving indoor air quality.
Be part of a movement that’s transforming homes and empowering communities. Our Workforce Development Program is training the next generation of certified energy professionals who are making homes safer, healthier, and more efficient. With your support, we can expand training, create more jobs, and strengthen Detroit and Highland Park for years to come.

Sponsors & Stakeholders
We extend our deepest appreciation to our program sponsors and stakeholders for recognizing that workforce development is not just an economic investment, but a community transformation strategy. Your support reflects a powerful understanding that when we train and equip individuals with the skills needed to succeed in fields like healthy housing, energy efficiency, and construction, we are doing more than filling jobs—we are creating pathways to stable careers, financial independence, and generational progress.
Thank you for believing in the talent that exists within our neighborhoods and for investing in training programs that uplift residents, particularly those from historically underserved communities. Your commitment to workforce development has empowered individuals to become certified professionals, business owners, and leaders in their own right. By supporting local capacity-building efforts, you’ve helped strengthen not only our housing stock but the people who maintain and protect it. We are truly grateful for your vision, trust, and continued partnership in building stronger, more resilient communities from the inside out.
